BRONX RIVER CLEAN UP
Members of Montfort's Theodore Roosevelt Naturalist Society are joining forces with the Westchester Parks Foundation to participate in The Clean River Program along the Bronx River in Tuckahoe. This program was launched last year and operated for 6 months with volunteers in White Plains. Erin Cordiner of the Foundation addressed Montfort students earlier this month about the work involved. The program is a river trash-based analysis program where volunteer students participate in real science, through hands-on experiences in which they collect and catalog the trash found while wading in the river using equipment, waders and gloves provided by the Foundation. The information collected and cataloged will ultimately be used to promote outreach to local businesses whose products end up in and along the river. On site work in the Bronx River will begin in May and run through October.
