STUDY ABROAD IN ROME AND SICILY

The Montfort Academy offers a truly unique lifetime experience of a one-month study abroad program in Rome, Italy at the prestigious Accademia Vivarium Novum, an institute specialized in the study of Latin and Greek and in promoting the contributions of ancient Rome and Athens and Renaissance humanism to Western Civilization. The Accademia Vivarium novum, established in 1998, is based in the exquisitely frescoed Villa Falconieri, built in 1546 not far from Cicero’s countryside Villa, which becomes Montfort’s study abroad campus, and walking distance of many other historic villas, including the Villa Mondragone, where Pope Gregory XIII signed the document Inter gravissimus that replaced the Julian calendar with our present Gregorian calendar in 1582 and where Galileo Galilei presented some of his findings to the Pope and his advisors.  Through generous scholarships offered by the Accademia, Montfort Knights stay for one-month in dormitory rooms at Villa Falconieri, where they live, study, dine, and experience the humanism of Renaissance Italy and the Paideia of ancient Greece, as well as the camaraderie of other students from more than fifty countries of the world. Specifically, while they are in Rome, Montfort Knights will study Latin, Greek, oratory, music, art, theater, architecture, poetry, and civic and moral virtue.
