History
The Montfort Academy is a classical curriculum Catholic high school founded in 2002 by former Assistant Secretary of the Navy and White House Fellow Richard Greco, Jr., who believed that the best way to orient society and culture toward the greater good was to form souls to be Christ-centered, minds to be classically trained, the body to be disciplined in good habits, and the whole person to be of good character. As the only classical Catholic high school in New York, Montfort’s core curriculum features classes in Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric, Latin, Greek, Astronomy, Civics, Philosophy, Chivalry, The Great Conversation of Western Civilization, Moral Theology, and the Great Books, in addition to an honors level high school program. All classes are taught in an Oxford style Socratic way, with oral examinations and emphasis on writing. Most students complete a Senior Research Thesis in Astrophysics or Advanced Biology using the Chicago citation method.
