Each year, Montfort receives more than 230 applications for a Freshman class that is limited to 40 students. What determines whether someone is accepted or not may surprise you!

All are smart, but we don’t look only for the academically most gifted. It would be boring to have a class made up only of geniuses!

We don’t look for the highest TACHS scores. That would be robotic, and our admissions process is far more personal. In fact the TACHS score is a relatively small part of our admissions process because at Montfort, no candidate is a number or is reduced to numbers. Every candidate has a name. Every candidate is a whole young man or woman with passions, interests, talents, ambitions, drive, and more. And that leads to great achievements. BUT . . .

We don’t even look for the longest list of achievements.

What do we look for in a candidate?

We look for genuine curiosity. . . a desire to know the how and why of things. A curious person can be inspired to dream and work hard to achieve those dreams.

We look for passion and expression. . . an expressive person—even a shy but expressive person—can be inspired and trained to speak and write well. And a person who speaks and writes well can lead. The successful candidate is passionate about the things he or she loves.

We also look for an openness to faith. . . a person who is open to God—who is love and truth—can see the good, beauty, and truth in things, and can be led to God and to a life of virtue.

Above all, we look for decency and character. Decency is the hallmark of a Montfort Knight.
