SOPHOMORE ADMISSIONS AND MID-FRESHMAN YEAR ADMISSIONS

Not all families and students decide on their high school prior to Freshman year.  While the data is hard to come by, a significant percentage of private school students choose their “best fit” school and decide to attend it prior to their Sophomore year. Whether it is a search for superior academics, superior college admissions, safety and security, a desire for more faith and character formation, or more of a family and community environment, Montfort has a large number of  new Sophomore year students  who join us  every year.

For this reason, mid-Freshman year and Sophomore year applicants are considered to be part of our regular admissions process. Yet, we understand that joining a school in Sophomore year is different from joining in Freshman year. Our teachers and administrators are experienced in helping student integrate socially and academically. It is a priority for us. We want every student who enrolls at Montfort to feel like a Montfort Knight from Day 1, whether that Day 1 is in Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or even Senior year.

Students are invited to spend a day or half a day at Montfort to get a feel for academics and the community and parents are invited to visit and meet with our administrators and staff.

JUNIOR AND SENIOR TRANSFER ADMISSIONS

The Montfort Academy also receives a large number of applications from students wishing to transfer to Montfort in the 11th grade and 12th grade. More than 18 Juniors and Seniors have transferred to Montfort just in the past academic year.

WHY?

Here are some reasons:

  • Montfort has a unique curriculum. Our four-year sequence of Grammar, Logic, Public Speaking, and Writing is unique among schools and provides students the necessary skills for success in professional life.

  • Our science, math, and humanities courses focus on the interconnectedness of knowledge—the relationships between and among the subjects so students can think across disciplines. Being able to think across disciplines is the engine of true creativity.

  • Moreover, our singular focus on an education of faith and character fosters a culture at Montfort of purposeful and meaningful living. Parents can be confident the students and families their children become friends with share the same values and goals of good and virtuous living.

  • This, in turn, creates a strong sense of community, even family, at Montfort.

  • Finally, we are small school, and we will always remain a small school—deliberately. In this way, our students enjoy very individual attention from our teachers. They can prosper in Socratic discussions in their classes and can enjoy a genuine sense of safety and security. Participate both in class and in our many clubs.

WORDS OF WISDOM FROM OUR FIRST GRADUATE IN 2004, WHO WAS A TRANSFER STUDENT IN HIS SENIOR YEAR

Throughout my high school years, I never really experienced learning as I found it to be at The Montfort Academy. Before coming here, I went to two other high schools, both basically the same. The usual Regents courses and pampered religion classes, the tests that one can commit to short term memory and pass, and all the cliquey groups and fad. Like most, I was blinded by this atmosphere to all that was good, true, and beautiful. . .If there ever was a place that allows for pure spiritual and person growth, it is here. . .where young minds and spirits can blossom and forge their own way through the jungle of daily living based on the principles of just and fair conduct. It allows a young person to grow up in purity and safety as can rarely be found anywhere else.”
