Montfort Boys Soccer Wins League Championship for First Time in History
The Montfort Academy's Boys Soccer Team has won the 2019 League Championship for the Westchester Independent Athletics Association. Throughout the season, Montfort's soccer team under the leadership of coach Nicola DiFiore and Athletic Director and former Olympian and New York Ranger Robert Greason consistently defeated its league rivals such as EF Academy, The Masters School, Soundview Prep, Stamford Academy Charter School, The German Independent School, the New York School for the Deaf, and other league participants. Montfort Knights have in the past made the playoffs, even the finals, but this is the first time Montfort's Boys Soccer Team has won the championship. During his time at Montfort, team captain Rodrigo Araujo has scored 29 goals. Other top scorers on the team include Sophomore Jaden Prado and Freshman Lucas Ferreira with 6 an 2 goals respectively this season.
To describe this year's championship, Coach Nicola DiFiore quoted famous soccer player Pele, who said, "Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do."
Montfort's girls Volleyball Team also has had a winning season and plays today against Soundview Prep in the League semi-finals. Montfort's co-ed Track & Field team, too, has grown to a team of twelve competitive runners.
