Montfort on Wall Street
On Monday, April 23rd, 10 seniors in the Foreign Policy and Fiscal Literacy Class visited the New York Stock Exchange. This experience was quite different then a normal school trip. The students were taken directly on to the Trading Floor where they learned the customer side of orders by actually observing a list of orders representing over 2 billion dollars worth of buy orders and sell orders. The orders were explained by a NYSE Governor who arranged the visit. Next they visited a Trading Post and saw how a Designated Market Maker (formerly known as a Specialist) manages orders in the stocks he is assigned. The students were able to see what they have learned about the Stock Market at the site where it all takes place.
