Montfort Speech and Debate Team places 1st at New York Catholic Forensic League Competition
MONTFORT TAKES TOP AWARDS AT NYCFL Competition!
At The New York Catholic Forensic League “Last Chance Competition" at Democracy Prep in the Bronx today, Montfort Junior Jayna Randolph took first place overall in Varsity Oral Interpretation of Literature, with Junior Amanda Muscente (Captain) in Third Place. Sophomore August Boland took First Place overall for Junior Varsity Oral Interpretation of Literature with Sophomore Lauren Sweeney in Third Place. Jayna won with Miss Manners Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behavior and Never Take A Pig To Lunch (poems about the joy of eating). August won with The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and New Kid on the Block (poems by children’s poet Jack Prelutsky).
The Montfort team placed first out of all other schools in today's competition, which included Regis, Fordham Prep, Iona Prep, Stuyvesant, and many other schools.
Excellent showings by all team members present: Thomas Curro, Kaitlyn Cucolo, Alessandra Carino, Suzanne Brusstar, Gabrielle Margand, Nicholas Cruz, Alyssa DiPaolo, Makayla Josiah, Colin Loughran, Excellent finishes follow our five team member wins from New York State Regional Competition last week with our first ever trip to the State Championships in April.
The Montfort Speech and Debate team is extremely proud to have qualified for the NYCFL Grands Tournament next weekend at Stuyvesant High School, with top finishers at Grands receiving a bid to the National Catholic Debate League Tournament in Washington , DC over Memorial Day weekend.
